Heirlooms, a piece of history

As the wedding rhyme goes, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”.  At a wedding in Melbourne, I was fortunate to witness and photograph something old, the handing down of an heirloom .

The grandmother of the groom wore a traditional chinese wedding dress called a qun kwa or qua for her own wedding.  It is a two-piece loose jacket and skirt.  It was then passed down to her daughter-in-law, the groom’s mother.

The journey of the qua has continued to the bride in Melbourne, by the groom’s mother.

One dress, a family heirloom, 8 decades on was a piece of history.  The stories it could tell.
