Secluded coves & hills in Hong Kong

Sunset behind the hills around Sai Kung, Hong Kong

How does this sound?  Board an old junk cruiser from a pier, sail for 20 minutes to a beautiful cove to relax and enjoy watching the sunset over the hills in the warm summer sea breeze.

Situated on the other side of Hong Kong, there are many small islands reachable by boat from Sai Kung town.  There are trails to walk through for the nature lovers or for those who want nothing more but to enjoy the sand and water, there are small coves like these to lie down and catch some rays.  Reefs surround the coves to provide calm waters without major tidal changes.  Sorry surfers, this isn’t for you.  Rockpools provide excellent platforms for photographers, and for snorkellers to explore life underwater.

The waters aren’t choppy and the boat cruise is calm.  It provides an opportunity to see a different side of Hong Kong, one where monolithic skyscrapers and apartments do not exist.  It makes one wonder whether this is what Hong Kong would be like without the dense city areas.  Or perhaps, because of the urban density, these sanctuaries exist and are preserved.
