A Grand day at The Ascot House in Melbourne

Bridesmaid to bride

One of the best ways of receiving positive feedback as a wedding photographer is through referrals.  I had the privilege to photograph the wedding of Danielle and Meng, held at The Ascot House in Melbourne, Victoria.  This was a very special wedding for me as Danielle met me when she was a bridesmaid at a wedding in France.  On top of that, it was in my hometown of Melbourne which is a magical place in Autumn.  The lush green grass and deciduous trees changing colours offered a great pallette of colours for wonderful photographs to be made for their special day!

The historical venue offered a variety of environments from the gardens to the antique rooms adorned with beautiful wood furniture.  You could feel the stories the walls wanted to share as you walked into each room!  The wedding day offered many different and exciting moments for this wedding photojournalist!  Being a fly on the wall and deciding which the best angles ensured that Danielle and Meng’s big day at the Ascot House would be properly documented for them to enjoy for many years to come.

The late afternoon sun provided some gorgeous lighting for the family and bridal portraits.  As camera shy as they were, it wasn’t hard to get everyone to feel at ease with my quirky sense of humour when directing them!

As the evening continued, tears were shed as fond memories were recalled during speeches.  Tears of joy were also shed as other tales were mentioned, though maybe the ones at the centre of the embarrassing stories weren’t too fond of them being made public on the night.  With the formalities out of the way, the live band got everyone dancing and I was no longer a fly on the wall but in the thick of the dance group.  The dimly lit environment was perfect to make some classical black and white images.  Nothing flashy is needed during this time of the night as the raw emotions were captured for eternity.

Danielle and Meng bade farewell to everyone through a guard of honour and sped away in their chauffeur driven car as husband and wife.
